The Overgrown Hour
The Fine Print

Privacy Policy

Your privacy, plainly explained. I collect as little as I can.

The Short Version

I run a small, personal website. I collect as little about you as I can. I will never sell your information, and anything you share with me is only used to run The Overgrown Hour and to correspond with you.

Who this is about

The Overgrown Hour is a personal project run by me, Tara Brooks. Here is the legal mumbo jumbo about what info is collected when you visit theovergrownhour.com, the reasons why, and what choices you have about it. If anything on this page is unclear, please email me at theovergrownhour@gmail.com, and I'll gladly explain it.

What I collect

Two kinds of things, and not much of either:

How I use it

Only in the ways you would expect:

  1. to send you the newsletter you asked for
  2. to reply to your messages
  3. to keep the site running smoothly
  4. to figure out what corners of cozy horror people like best so I can make more of that

That's genuinely all. While I am nosy, I'm more of the "get in the back of a UPS truck and open up all the packages just to see what people ordered" kinda girl.

Not buying and selling your personal information. There are already a ton of websites that do that to you.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are tiny files a website stores in your browser. This site uses them to remember basic preferences and, through an analytics tool, to count visits in a general way. You can block or delete cookies anytime in your browser settings, and the site will still work. Embedded content, like YouTube videos, may also set its own cookies once you press play.

The newsletter

If you subscribe, your email is stored with my email provider only so I can send you updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can leave anytime with no hard feelings. I will never share or sell your address.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links, which may use cookies to credit a purchase back to me. You can read the whole friendly explanation on my Affiliate Disclosure page.

The helpers I trust

To run a website at all, I rely on a few trusted services, and some of your information passes through them. These may include my website host, my email newsletter provider, an analytics tool, and partners like YouTube, Amazon, and Etsy when you use those features or links. Each has its own privacy policy. I only work with services I believe treat your information with care.

Your choices

You are always in control. You can unsubscribe from emails, block cookies in your browser, and ask me what information I have about you or request that I delete it. Just email me and I will take care of it. Depending on where you live, such as the EU, UK, or California, you may have additional rights, and I am happy to honor them.

Children

The Overgrown Hour is meant for grown-ups and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent me information, please email me and I will delete it.

Changes to this policy

As the site grows, this policy may change now and then. When it does, I will update the date below. Nothing sneaky, just keeping things current.

Say hello

Questions about your privacy, or anything at all? Write to me at theovergrownhour@gmail.com. A real person, and two nosy cats, will read it.
