The Overgrown Hour
About

Come in, the kettle's on

Slow, rainy, candlelit corners of my imaginary world.

Hi, I'm Tara, and this is the hour I always wished I could step into.

The Overgrown Hour started as a feeling more than a plan: a longing for somewhere slow and dim and kind. Somewhere the rain taps the window, a candle gutters, herbs hang drying overhead, and nothing at all is asking anything of you. I couldn't find that place on demand, so I started making it: hour-long scenes you can disappear into while you read, study, or finally let your shoulders drop.

The cozy-witch of it all

I've always been drawn to the witchy, cottagecore edge of things, not the spooky kind so much as the comfortable kind. Worn wood and warm light. A kitchen that smells like rosemary and rain. The quiet magic of making a small ritual out of an ordinary evening. In a world that runs loud and fast, building these unhurried little worlds feels like its own kind of spell.

On finally being myself

For a long stretch of my life, I thought I owed everyone an explanation. For what I liked, how I spent my time, why the cozy and the strange and the softly witchy called to me. Somewhere past forty, I quietly set that down.

This is simply me now: unapologetically cozy, a little witchy, no defense necessary.

The Overgrown Hour is what that freedom looks like when you pour it into a candlelit room. There's no explaining left to do here. If it feels like home to you too, you're already one of us.

The Familiar

And this is Cleo

Every hour needs a familiar, and mine is a real black cat named Cleo, chief supervisor of candles, warm laps, and things that must be knocked off shelves at 3 a.m. She's the heart of the whole world, the reason there's always a cat curled somewhere in the scene, and the spark behind Paws & Portents, where I turn other people's pets into familiars of their own.

The hours we keep

A few things I believe in

Slow is allowed

Rest isn't something you earn. An hour spent doing nothing beautiful is an hour well spent.

Comfort over perfection

Slightly wild plants, worn wood, mismatched mugs. Cozy is a feeling, not a showroom.

Come as you are

No gatekeeping, no explaining, no defending your soft, strange, witchy heart. You're welcome here.

Stay a While
